Pablo L. Ortiz Romero is Professor of Dermatology at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), Spain, a post he has held since 2008, is Head of the Dermatology Section at the University Hospital 12 de Octubre, Madrid, and is responsible for the cutaneous lymphoma and melanoma unit of the Dermatology Service at the same hospital. He received his medical degree from the UCM in 1985, completed a residency in Dermatology and Venereology at the Hospital 12 de Octubre in 1990, and was awarded a PhD from the UCM in 1992.
Professor Ortiz Romero’s academic interests have focused mainly on primary cutaneous lymphomas and melanoma. His clinical and translational research has been financed with competitive grants since 1991, and he has directed five PhD students. He was awarded the Medical School Special Prize after graduating in 1985, and the Doctoral Special Prize following his PhD, and has received two prizes from the EADV and more than 20 prizes from the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology. He served as Secretary General of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Cutaneous Lymphoma Task Force (EORTC CLTF) for 6 years, and is now on the boards of the EORTC CLTF and of the International Society for Cutaneous Lymphomas.
Professor Ortiz Romero has published three internationally distributed books on dermatology and is co-inventor of one patent. He has almost 200 publications to his name, in journals including Journal of Investigative Dermatology, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, British Journal of Dermatology, and Archives of Dermatology, as well as Cancer Cell, The Lancet, Blood, Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and American Journal of Pathology.
